What is the difference between Fashion design and Fashion & Retail management?

a designer designs the acual garmet as the retail and management is very similar to public relations. they would try to promote, sell and even buy the clothing inorder to get the brand out.

Fashion design is where you come up with the ideas for clothes and sketch them out. You need to know how certain fabrics stretch and hang when sewed. You also need to know how to sew and make your own clothes patterns from body measurements.

Fashion & Retail management is more of the business end of things. You learn how to set up a shop, the best way to place things in your shop so they will sell as quickly as possible. When people walk in the store, you want the newer things towards the front to draw them in. You learn to take inventory and how to buy from the new clothing lines that come out every season. You don't want to buy more than you can sell. The more you have to put on clearance, the more money you lose.

Are there any colleges that offer programs that you can major in Fashion Designing and Business Management in New York?

Have you looked into FIT?

Their cirriculum covers all aspects of the industy. My daughter has a friend who is transferring there to study fashion and journalism.

Umm the Art Institutes are total scams! they charge ridiculus amounts for tuition and offer really bad financial aid and no one takes the school seriously because even someone with no artistic talent can get in...as long as you are willing to pay the tuition they'll take you. I would definately go with FIDM because they are better equipped to get you internships and other opportunities to get your foot in the door of the fashion industry and it's a school that devotes its entire purpose to fashion, unlike the AI schools which cover cooking, art, graphics, etc.

What are the good universities in Odense(Denmark) for further studies like Fashion business management?

A university having a good campus,people etc..

There is only a single university in Odense, it's called Syddansk Universitet, and is actually seperated into many different parts of southern Denmark. You will find a variety of management studies as seen on this webpage:

However I don't think they have anything like Fashion Business Management.

Regarding campus etc. you are likely to find a better campus society in Aalborg, Aarhus and Copenhagen.

i would think merchandising would be - ahh putting the merchandise on the shelf, thats usually what merchadising means. and marketing and management would involve the selling of the merchandise.

How similar are fashion merchandising management and fashion design courses?

I'm interested in attending a college that focuses on these subjects but I'm not sure which 1 to major in. I would like to eventually one day own a major clothing enterprise and I was wondering which degree would be most beneficial towards my goal.
